Project Overview: 5*1 Facade Design by Roykard Architecture Studio

Following the completion of the structural framework, the 5*1 project, located on Imam Reza Street in Isfahan, was entrusted to Roykard Architecture Studio for the design of its façade. This mixed-use building, which includes both office and commercial spaces, presented a unique set of challenges due to its dual purpose and its surrounding context. The project’s location, combined with the open spaces around it, called for a façade that would not only maximize natural light but also provide a visually coherent connection to the urban landscape.

Design Objectives: Transparency, Rhythm, and Light Control

Given the client’s request for ample natural lighting in the office spaces and expansive views in the commercial areas, it was essential to design a façade that was both transparent and functional. The solution was a rhythmic skin that could balance light penetration with energy efficiency, providing controlled illumination throughout the building. The façade needed to act as a filter—allowing for the optimal use of daylight in the office areas while maintaining the openness and visibility required for the commercial spaces.

Contextual Challenges and Structural Constraints

When Roykard Architecture Studio took over the project, the concrete ceilings had already been cast, and certain structural limitations were already in place. This led to the development of a design strategy focused on proportion, simplicity, and visual harmony. With these constraints in mind, we carefully examined how the façade could establish a meaningful connection with the surrounding urban environment while also responding to the internal functional needs of the building.

The structural elements informed the façade’s proportions, with each decision shaped by the need for simplicity and coherence. Despite the restrictions, we sought to introduce diversity within the visual assessments of the façade. The result is a design that maintains a sense of modesty and restraint, allowing the building to blend harmoniously into its environment while still standing out for its thoughtful use of materials and form.
