The project «KHAN HOUSE» commenced with the design and
reconstruction of spaces based on the needs of the clients, a young
couple. The scale of the house is small, with a plan measuring 6
meters in width and 19.5 meters in length. In the redesign of the
house, the focus was on achieving optimal performance within
this scale and creating a distinction between public, semi-public,
and private spaces. In the linear diagram of the ground floor, the
master bedroom and laundry room are located in the northern
part of the plan, while the kitchen and a small living room are
positioned towards the south. In this diagram, the kitchen is
considered part of the living space and the entire plan, ensuring
a seamless integration and maximizing the utilization of the space,
making it appear larger.
On the first floor, by making structural changes, a larger reception
area with a terrace in front of it has been formed. Due to the
client›s desire to maintain privacy from the city›s view inside the
project, the façade has been designed as a porous brick screen
that extends up to the terrace, creating a completely serene and
exclusive space for this family. Furthermore, the terrace in this
project also represents a private courtyard or moonlit space in
Iranian architecture, preserving a strong connection between the
project and the sky. Transparency is maintained, and materials
with balanced textures and light colors are utilized to establish
an unbounded relationship between the ground and first floors
(private, semi-public, and public spaces). Efforts have been made
to achieve the highest level of functionality from the minimum area
and structural constraints.
